    And something different……

After a prestigious run at the V&A during London Design Festival last year, which generated a large amount of press coverage, the 26Treasures project is continuing in 2011. This year there will be 4 projects UK-wide in England, Scotland, N Ireland and Wales. See www.26Treasures.com

The Scottish project will take place from St Andrews Night 2011 to Burns Night 2012 at the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. 26 writers will be asked to write about 26 objects that tell the story of Scottish history and will form a treasure trail through the galleries. It is a tight brief of only 62 words, which will be on display in the Museum and be a focus for events during the exhibition and an online campaign.

We are looking for a wide variety of writers from different disciplines to volunteer for this project. They will be required to produce 62 words about the exhibit, a blog piece for use on the 26Treasures website and to take part in events. Please email NMS26T@gmail.com to receive an application form. Applications must be received by: 28 April 2011.

    And something more….

The guest tutor for the course is Jen Hadfield, with a masterclass delivered by Don Paterson - this year's Festival poet.

    SAWNEY BEAN, HUMANE CUISINE

Following the success of Morningside Malcolm at the Fringe last year (4 star review!) Robin Cairns presents his new one-man show for 2011.

The paly takes as its starting point the tale of the legendary Scots cannibal. Add to that the perverse relationship between master and servant, the crushing of Scots culture after the Jacobite rebellion and the eternal allure of dark and mysterious caves and you have the recipe for SAWNEY BEAN, HUMANE CUISINE

    WORD PLAY

The theme for March is "The Fool, the Cuckoo and longer days."

The Fool he is a complex stirred,
    his legs all splay akimbo.
The cuckoo is a curious bird,
    of longer days the symbol.

The venue for WORD PLAY is the Victoria Bar in the Tron Theatre - the open mic opportunity created by the WORD FACTORY. An event, to showcase work coming out of the Factory, whilst also setting up the chance for everyone else to participate. WORD PLAY is held on the last Wednesday of every month. All attendees are requested to make a donation of £2 towards our ongoing costs.

We advise all performers to rehearse their work and time the presentation prior to appearance. Please ensure that your material will suit a mixed audience. Slots are restricted to 5 mins max per person, (readers can gauge this by preparing about 3 or 4 short poems or just over 2 pages of typed prose). This limit will be strictly enforced. The featured act for February is the WORD FACTORY and help.

Participation is welcomed from old hands and novices. Contact Marc marcsherland@btinternet.com
