November 2010 Lit Events

With October coming to an end and November fast approaching, I thought that I would take the liberty of posting upcoming events in the month of November.

November 1- GWL Archives Workshops

2–4pm, @ Glasgow Women's Library, 15 Berkeley Street, Glasgow. This week's session is an intro to archives including object handling and box-listing. If you have any questions about this event or would like to come along, then please contact Hannah Litte, hannah.little@womenslibrary.org.uk

November 1-3- 'Mara Menzies 'Legend of Magnificent Moon & Toto Tales'

9.45am & 1.15pm at The Village Storytelling Centre, St James' Parish Church, 183 Meiklerig Crescent, Glasgow. Lively, colourful African storytelling from Mara Menzies and friends. Ages 3 to 7 and families. 'Part of the Wee Inspiration Festival 2010. Tickets cost £3. Call 0141 287 9835 to book.

November 1-29- Writing Glasgow, University of Glasgow Creative Writing Programme Exhibition

An FREE exhibition at The Mitchell celebrating the 15th anniversary of the University of Glasgow's Creative Writing Programme.

November 2- Canongate’s Irregular launch Alasdair Gray’s autobiography A Life in Pictures.

Doors open at 8pm Canongate’s Irregular will travel from its regular venue in Edinburgh to Oran Mor to celebrate the long-awaited publication of A Life in Pictures, the autobiography of author and artist Alasdair Gray. With Alasdair Gray, Liz Lochhead, Louise Welsh and music from Roddy Woomble, Lord Cut-Glass and My Latest Novel, this an event not to be missed!

Tickets cost £6 and are available on Ticketweb.co.uk, or from behind the bar at the Oran Mor, Byres Road, Glasgow.

November 2-6-Virginia's Woolf's 'Orlando', part of Glasgay! 2010

7.30pm at Tramway, Glasgow. Orlando is presented by Cryptic and is performed by Madeleine Worrall, featuring live vocals and electronics by AGF and an original soundtrack by AGF and Craig Armstrong. For ticket information, visit http://www.glasgay.co.uk/event/id/469

November 3-Virginia Woolf's 'Orlando' all day event, part of Glasgay! 2010

9.30am-6pm at Tramway, Glasgow. SYMPOSIUM: Unlacing Orlando: an inspirational day of lectures, debates, papers and readings exploring and celebrating Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, hosted by Cryptic and the University of Glasgow. A discounted ticket rate is available to those purchasing both Orlando performance and Unlacing Orlando symposium ticket(s).

November 4-Alistair Moffat 'The Faded Map'

November 5-6- Writing Glasgow

Meet the Tutor, November 5 at 6pm & November 6 at 2pm at the Mitchell, Glasgow
A wonderful opportunity to learn more about the University of Glasgow's Creative Writing programme during a question and answer session with course tutors.

November 10-Jackie Kay 'Red Dust Road', part of Glasgay! 2010

9.30pm at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow. Jackie Kay will be reading from her newly published memoirs, 'Red Dust Road' which provide a warm and humorous autobiographical account of Kay's upbringing in Scotland. Tickets cost £8.50.

November 11-St Mungo's Mirrorball

7pm at Glasgow School of Art. An evening headlined by multi-award winning Irish poet, Bernard O'Donoghue. Also featuring poets, Hazel Frew and Miriam Gamble.

November 20-Write-Tron For All

10am-1pm at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow. Call 0141 552 4267 for ticket information.

November 24-Word Play

8pm at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow. Tickets are FREE for this event.

November 25-Armistead Maupin 'Mary Ann in Autumn'

6.30pm at Waterstone's, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. Come to Waterstone's and meet Armistead Maupin read from 'Mary Ann in Autumn: A Tales of the City Novel' For further information about this event call 0131 226 2666. Tickets cost £3 (redeemable against purchase.)

November 25-St Mungo's Mirrorball

7pm at the Glasgow School of Art. Three wonderful voices from across Scotland; featuring poets Kona Macphee, Hugh MacMillan and Brian Whittingham.
